★★★★ ‘a Marriage of Figaro to remember’ - Bachtrack on the 2016 revival

Sir Thomas Allen revives his much-loved production of Mozart’s unstoppable masterpiece. Reflecting the insight and experience of a seasoned performer, Allen’s Figaro is full of humour, subtlety, and wit. Simon Higlett’s sumptuous designs provide the backdrop for a comedy of social revolution and subversion that is as relevant today as ever, and this time sung in English.

All wedding days are complicated, but nothing compared to Figaro’s. After discovering that his boss, the Count, plots to seduce his wife, Figaro and Susanna must use their wit to outsmart their employer, whilst making it down the aisle.

Mozart’s bubbling, energetic score - conducted by Dane Lam - shows his true theatrical genius for getting to the heart of each character. Edward Jowle is Figaro, with Ava Dodd as Susanna; these roles are taken at select performances by Emyr Wyn Jones and Kira Kaplan (20 May and 2 June 2026). The main cast is rounded out by Ian Rucker making his Company debut as Count Almaviva, Alexandra Lowe as the Countess, and Simone McIntosh and Chloe Harris (20 May and 2 June 2026) as Cherubino.

Audio-described Performances & Touch Tours

Mention opera and most people think of singing and music – but this is only part of the overall experience. What about scenery, costumes, lighting, direction and choreography?

For those living with sight loss, our audio description service provides a live commentary describing the action on stage without compromising the music. As part of the experience, a recorded introduction to the opera is available in advance and there is a live audio introduction before the start of the performance.

In addition, you can also book onto a free touch tour – an opportunity to go backstage and become more familiar with the set, scenery, props and costumes.

Please book in advance for audio-described performances and touch tours by calling the venue box offices:
